Personal Statement
I am an engineer by trade, a designer by heart. I have been knitting since 2003. I started designing in 2006, when I embarked on an adventure as a knitwear designer and fiber/yarn entrepreneur under the guise of Fiber Fiend. In the past four years I have self-published over 30 patterns for a variety of garments and accessories, including women’s pullovers, baby sweaters, socks, hats, a hand towel, and a stuffed monster.
Interweave Knits published my Zarabel pullover (Ravelry link) through Knitting Daily as a part of Interweave Knits Winter 2009 Online. My pattern Colette (Ravelry link) appears in The Twist Collective Spring 2009 issue. Yarn Forward published my Multnomah Falls (Ravelry link) design in Magazine No. 18, October 2009. My Textured Argyle and Diamond Vests (Ravelry link) are in the Spring 2009 issue of Knotions Magazine, a free online magazine. Skacel published my Aludra vest (Ravelry link) in Winter 2010. Knit Picks has published my Snowman Illusion Mittens (Ravelry link). Bella Knitting has published one of my summer shell designs, Natalia. Crystal Palace Yarns has published a tank top design of mine, Aria (Ravelry Link). Six Sox Knitalong has published one of my sock patterns, Sequoia (Ravelry link). (It’s a free pattern if you join their Yahoo group.)
I’ve exhibited at Stitches West, the California Wool and Fiber Festival, and The National Needle Arts Association Winter Trade Show. I have taught an illusion knitting workshop, a dye workshop and a workshop on my Spiral Cabled Chemo Caps to the Knitspiration Guild. You can see my knitwear designs as well as my hand-dyed fiber and yarn at FiberFiend.com and on Ravelry (patterns and yarn/fiber). What I’m really interested in as a designer is the intersection of intricate cables and colorwork or subtle textures and lace with flattering fitted knits. I am also interested in unique garment construction.
